Veteran psychiatry: assessment, treatment and DVA claims support
Many veterans live with complex mental health needs, stemming from their time in the service or the transition to a civilian lifestyle.
A psychiatrist for veterans helps provide clarity, with a clear diagnosis, a tailored treatment plan, and ongoing support, including a DVA psychiatric report that may assist with your claim.
Psychiatry for veterans at TVH is available in person or via telehealth (where clinically appropriate) with short waiting lists so that you can get the care you need.

- Comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for veterans
- Individualised treatment planning

- Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

Our team can help you work it out – you don’t need to have it figured out before you reach out.
DVA claim support from an online psychiatrist for veterans
A DVA claim for a mental health condition generally requires a formal diagnosis and supporting clinical documentation. Our psychiatrists can carry out an assessment and provide a report to support your claim.
An assessment or report doesn’t guarantee a particular outcome – DVA makes the final determination based on the full body of evidence provided. What we can offer is a thorough, independent assessment and clear documentation of your diagnosis and condition, prepared by a healthcare practitioner familiar with veteran health.
If you’re already working with a DVA claims advocate or support person, our team can coordinate with them as part of your care.
Part of a coordinated care team
Psychiatry at TVH doesn’t operate in isolation. Our psychiatrists work alongside GPs, psychologists, and other members of your veteran mental health care plan, so your treatment fits within your broader health picture.
For veterans with complex or treatment-resistant conditions, this coordinated approach allows for a smooth transition between levels of care.
Depending on your situation, this might mean:
- Adjustments to medication management
- Referral to a day program
- Inpatient support
- Access to evidence-based treatments such as TMS for treatment-resistant depression or innovative therapies.
Your psychiatrist will discuss any recommendations with you.
